I have been using VIRL for around 6 months off and on... But I just discovered today that there is supposed to be a jump host. I do not ever remember seeing it. I have version virl.0.9.242.pc. Is there a way I can try to identify what the problem might be?

What are the chances that Cisco security products such as FirePOWER, AMP and ISE will be added to VIRL?

I would love to be able to practice and test out the different features that these products have to offer for test preparation purposes AND for testing purposes for my production network.

Activation problems

@pjdouglas wrote:

Hi,

Recently installed VIRL on our VM server and although everything seem to go well activation as been a pain.

The server has full internet access and I can browse the internet without problems.

The activation error I get is: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/etc/salt/pki/minion/minion_master.pub'

I have checked the obvious like the salt ID, email address, IP address and internet access and everything seems fine.

Really would appreciate some help.

Kind Regards

Paul

Interfaces shutdown after router reload

@JJBEE83 wrote:

Hi,

Has anyone had the issue when even though you've saved your config, you reload your router and the interfaces are admin down? Why does this happen?

I was trying to simulate a failover scenario and reloaded one of my routers to find the traffic hadn't failed back and it was because when the IOSv had completed it's boot again all interfaces were admin down! Annoying.

Anyone had this issue or know a way around it?

Thanks

VIRL on Packet.net Issue - Flavors required by topology, but not available to STD: "ASAv"

Error I get:

I know the ASAv works because I used it last night. Today, when I spin up the server on packet.net and go to launch the simulation I'm working on, it gives me that above message. I see the ASAv image under the images tab but NOT under the flavors tab. How do I get it in the flavors tab to get passed this error?

So I watched the video for VIRL on packet, downloaded the install doc, printed all the README's out....and now I am THOROUGHLY confused...I have a window PC running VMWare workstation to host my VIRL server...I am confused as to what I am supposed to install/not install...install on VIRL vs install on my desktop.....do we have a "WINDOWS" manual for this....I made it all the way to the "setup an openVPN" client...and now I am all over the place.

thanks

on CSR1000v, show ospf has the same commands as show ip ospf, except show ospf doesn't actually work

I am unable to find anything about show ospf in IOS XE command reference. Is this a bug?

bb1#show ip ospf 1 traffic

Without autonetkit, csr1000v has ge1 interface configured, but iosv is missing configuration on ge0/0 interface and its status is admin down. Aparently the 10.255.0.x address is still being used by VM Maestro for telnet to management interface.

Is this a bug?

VIRL is designed to replace GNS3 and/or a lab of Cisco routers. What do each of these have in common? They can easily be run off-line - not connected to the Internet.

VIRL on the other hand, requires an Internet connection. Has anyone figured a way around that?

How to save modifications to an LXC instance for future use?

@edjacks wrote:

Hello, I would like to save some modifications that I've made to an LXC host as a separate image that I could use for future and different topologies. Is there a way to make a 'snapshot' or 'image' of a running LXC instance that would allow me to be able to re-use the instance w/o having to modify it every time?

Is this possible with an non-LXC image like a KVM based Ubuntu image?

Thanks,

Ed Jackson

Packet Capture with Wireshark on a Mac

@terryw64 wrote:

I've looked through the post on how to do do packet capture with wireshark on a Mac.

I did come across one reply that looked promising. As it looked to pipe into a file and then have Wireshark read from that file. The syntax was as of follows on the OS side. I kept getting an end of pipe error.

mkfifo /tmp/sharkfin
nc 192.168.143.129 10007 > /tmp/sharkfin (I assume the ip address or hostname is the same one used to get to the uwm console. If not, maybe this is the problem.

I'm not a unix person.

Can anyone give me clear cut instructions on how to do a live capture on a Mac. It would greatly be appreciated. My subscription is up for renewal at the end of the month. I'm really trying to decide whether to resubscribe for another year.

Thank you

Tring to connect using only the management port it says:

And VIRL is talking with the server:

Any ideas?

Memory Leak

@eman wrote:

I have updated my VIRL server to 0.10.22.7 a while ago. I have noticed that the memory is just being ate up by VIRL process and is at ~32% RAM utilization after letting the system run for awhile. I have 16GB of RAM dedicated to the VM and it is running on an ESXi 5.5 server. I have done a search of the Community but nothing really fits this situation, so my question is what should I do to plug this leak?
