Please help... I used Autonetkit to configure my initial lab without a problem. However I needed to add several new nodes to the topology, so I unchecked the autonetkit for the existing nodes and added and the new nodes with checked autonetkit for configuration. Creating VLAN in Database (Bug? report)

$

@flok wrote:

Hi community!
I use VIRL as an initial exercise for students to show them practical l2-switching and l3-routing. The students are at the end of the semester and solved problems using a troubleshoot exercise in groups.
At this point I noticed that there is a problem with the VLANs configuration on cisco ios-switches.
I can't configure VLANs directly without linking it to a port as access VLAN. How have I solved this problem? I configured the access port with multiple VLANs (example below). To configure the VLAN independently as an interface doesn't work, because the trunk doesn’t transfer the VLAN if it isn`t in the VLAN Database.

Example for mutible VLANs:
interface GigabitEthernet0/3
description to server-2
switchport access vlan 10
switchport access vlan 30
switchport access vlan 20
switchport mode access
media-type rj45
negotiation auto
!
After execute this configuration, the VLAN on port is VLAN20. Now there are VLAN10 and VLAN30 active in VLAN Database on the switch.

If you extract the configuration, you have the following problem:
interface GigabitEthernet0/3
description to server-2
switchport access vlan 20
switchport mode access
media-type rj45
negotiation auto
!
So you can`t extract the configurations like i did it in my solution in the first example.

I searched for another way to create VLANs in the database in the initial configuration. :
!
vlan 10
!
interface vlan 30
no shutdown
!
The first entry VLAN10 was ignored and the second entry with the interface I get this Message.
*Mar 13 17:35:29.480: %LINEPROTO-5-UPDOWN: Line protocol on Interface Vlan30, changed state to down
The Interface VLAN30 exist, but in VLAN Database, there is no Entry for this VLAN.
VLAN Name Status Ports

1 default active Gi0/0
10 VLAN0010 active Gi1/0
1002 fddi-default

Some detail information about the system:
Cisco IOS Software, vios_l2 Software (vios_l2-ADVENTERPRISEK9-M), Version 15.2(4.0.55)E

I think there should be a solution to execute commands after initial configuration to solve this problem.

If you need more information, or another solution, please reply to this thread.

Greetings Florian

I have an Intel NUC Gen 6, running ESXi 6 in compliance with all resource specifications. When I'm at home, my VIRL installation works great. I use the NUC to bring my labs to my office with no internet access on my NUC system. When I boot up VIRL, Ubuntu loads as normal but VIRL web server never starts. I understood that the need to call home was as stated every 7 days. If so what could be the issue. Because on the same day when I get back home and boot the system in the same way Ubuntu and VIRL start without issue. I can jump right to Maestro and start my simulations. What i really need to understand is: VIRL require internet all the time. Tks!

NX OS VLAN Translation

Hello,

I searched around and could not find the answer to this...

Has anyone been able to get VLAN Translation to work on NX OS or any of the L2 images? I am just trying to perform VLAN mapping on the edge to test a scenario. My config looks good so I was wondering if I was running into a shortcoming of the image.

Thanks,

Spanning-tree: Cost doesn't influence Desg - NonDesg Port

@terryw64 wrote:

I'm working on my ICND2. With the simple topology listed, I've been attempting to try and influence the designated / non-designated ports on the segment between the two bottom routers. By adjusting the cost on the individual interface. I haven't been successful.

It is my understanding that the BPDU's come downstream from the root bridge (The switch on the top of the pyramid). Once the BPDU comes into the root port of the non-root switch, the cost to root is adjusted and then that BPDU is shoved out the other designated ports, etc..

In this topology, since the non-root switch on the lower left has the lower BID, the port on the inside between it and the switch on the lower right becomes the designated port. And therefore the other one on the segment goes into blocking.

Again, dealing with just the two lower switches of the pyramid and the segment between them, the port on the left is designated and on the right is blocking. By adjusting the cost of the port of the left, I want to make it block and the other become the designated port. I've done this by going into the interface gi0/2 and issuing spanning-tree vlan 1 cost 19.

Needless to say, it isn't working. Is this a flaw or should I go back and reread the chapter of spanning-tree. LOL.

Zooming slection greyed out bug

I started the simulation in maximized window (Ubuntu 15.10). VM Maestro switched to Simulation perspective. After all nodes started I noticed the zooming slection (100%) was still greyed out. I had to go to design perspective and switch back to simulation to make zooming selection available.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Static Ports Not Working - MGMT LXC Showing Down/Build

@Daniel_Williams wrote:

Hello,

I was trying to use static ports with a static IP on the MGMT LXC. I am using the shared flat network as the management network for the simulation.

I have setup a small one device, IOSv, simulation to test this in a few different configurations. When I have the static ports and the static IP configured the mgmt lxc shows as down on the UWM connectivty sheet:

When I try to connect to the device on the static port using the built in telnet client it looks like the connection opens, sits blank for a minute, then says closed by a foreign host. I am able to ping the static IP of the mgmt lxc.

I then removed all of the static settings and attempted the same simulation and now the mgmt lxc is stuck in build:

I left a test overnight and the status never changes. I am running the simulations as guest with admin rights. I setup static management IPs for devices without issue all of the time. I did not do that on this sim to remove one more layer of complexity. I have rebooted the box and restarted the openstack as mentioned in a previous post.

I have never used the mgmt lxc before so I do not know "when" it stopped working. All I know is that it is not working now.

Any ideas? Thanks!

I would like to connect VIRL on Packet.net to a real or external network. Is that possible? I know it is possible if you have a local VIRL server but I do not. I am running VIRL completely from packet.net (cloud platform).

Please let me know if anyone has any good ideas or can point me in the right direction. Thank you!

I am having an issue where the topology editor won't actually open any topology files. The middle of the VMmaestro program where topologies would normally open is just blank. When I double click a file nothing occurs. I attempted to uninstall the VMmaestro client and reinstall, it still hasn't seemed to fix the problem, any help would be appreciated.

I have a Windows 7 machine with Bitdefender AV Free issue installed, this system is connecting to a VIRL server running on another system. I have not been able to open up the Web Socket console and VNC. After turning off Bitdefender virus shield all connections are working as expected. Any suggestions on AV to install instead or how to get Bitdefender to not block my connections?

I added a few interfaces/nodes to a iosv node. A new connection is using the interface name of an interface I added manually (not connected to another node).

The existing config for the dummy interface (not connected to anything) g0/3 got applied to a newly added connection named g0/3. It became all of a mess.

imo later added interfaces should not be taking over interface number from unconnected interfaces.

Unable to activate new VIRL 1.0.26 instance on ESXi Host

@pagan wrote:

I am unable to activate after a fresh installation. I receive the error:

Failed to check call home status: Cisco contact was not established. This may be temporary. Please make sure the VIRL server is connected to the Internet and capable of reaching the configured Cisco master. Also make sure that the minion key provided to you matches your minion ID and domain, and remains valid. Current status is: Master contact was not established. Last call home check result was: Call has timed out; failed to connect or minion key not accepted.

I have verified that NTP is running on both the guest and ESXi host. I have verified my salt key and domain name. I have tried several variations of salt hosts including us-1.virl.info, eu-1.virl.info, salt-master.cisco.com, salt-master-2.cisco.com, eu-salt-master.cisco.com, and eu-salt-master-2.cisco.com and none work. I have reinstalled multiple times and nothing works. I have verified that requests are not being blocked by our firewall.

Everything looks good on the guest and host. Are the salt servers down? Please help me get this thing activated.
